In a season unlike any other we’ve experienced, many of us are missing our traditions and gatherings, and we’re rethinking how to commemorate the holidays. From a business standpoint, the holidays have always been an important time to show appreciation to clients and partners. This year, it’s more important than ever to thank loyal customers for their support. We asked experts in corporate gifting to weigh in on the trends they are seeing.

“We’ve noticed that our corporate clients are asking for cozy items that can be used around the house,” said Mallory Scott, Director of Marketing and Key Accounts, at Maryland-based Sonic Promos. “Blankets, socks, slippers, and pajamas have all been big hits this year—even for companies that are sending out items for virtual meetings or tradeshows.” She also added: “We’ve been getting more requests for things like customized puzzles and games that can be shared by the whole family.”

Scott also points out that presentation is important. “Clients are choosing a few different items and putting them in branded shipping boxes that are then sent directly to the recipient’s doorstep. The branded box starts the experience from the moment it arrives instead of getting lost in a sea of other deliveries—creating excitement and delighting the recipient,” she said.

Some companies are taking a different approach. Accounting firm Matthews, Carter & Boyce elected to forgo corporate gifts this year. Instead, they asked employees to select causes and charities they are passionate about, and the firm made donations to 14 organizations that are doing good in their community.

Isn’t that what the spirit of giving is really all about?
